When you go to the grocery store, it can be difficult to stay away from certain goodies along the aisles. You know the tempting options we’re talking about – chips, dips, cookies, and more. It’s like the packaged groceries stare and say, “Buy me,” right?

Most cookies are sugary, highly processed, and can cause inflammation in the body.

Chronic inflammation is linked to weight gain and can be specifically linked to belly fat because it increases cortisol, also known as the ‘belly fat hormone’, which slows down fat burning and causes you to store more fat, especially around your waistline . “explains Eat This, Not That! Fried foods are a boon to your waistline as they are high in calories and saturated fat, which can lead to inflammation and weight gain.

“This inflammatory food is bad news for your lean stomach because inflammation appears to affect leptin, your hunger hormone, which regulates how much you should eat,” explains Lakatos Shames. Plus, it also increases cortisol, which when high is linked to increased belly fat.

An example? Frozen onion rings. I’m sorry, but they’re not much better than the ones you can order at a fast food restaurant.

Pre-packaged noodles make lunch easy and convenient. However, they are often high in sodium, refined carbohydrates, and saturated fat, all of which contribute to weight gain.

“It’s best to either avoid these types of meals or eat them on rare occasions,” says Best.

Make your own pasta with marinara and meatballs and opt for a whole wheat pasta or a bean or legume-based option like banza. (That happens to be made from chickpeas.)

For years I struggled to find the perfect dairy-free breakfast bars. They have to be hearty, but with a delicate texture. Simple, healthy ingredients are a must for the taste to be like homemade. And they mustn’t contain too much sugar. Fortunately, all of my wishes were granted the day I tried Enjoy Life Breakfast Ovals. These oaty, filling snacks are my favorite morning take away snacks. Since I have a sweet tooth, I try to pay attention to added sugar and reduce it in sensible places. Great taste
