RSVP and the Stevick Center are both administered by Champaign County’s Family Service.


Would you like to volunteer to have discussions about age issues? The Senior Task Force is looking for members. They believe “Nothing about us without us!” The next meeting, scheduled for May 19 at 9:10 am, can be attended in person at the Champaign Public Library or through Zoom. Call Julie at the Family Service Senior Resource Center for information or to reserve a spot.


The Peace Meal Nutrition Program offers a 11:30 am daily hot lunch for a small donation and a one-day pre-reservation at locations in Champaign, Urbana, Rantoul, Sidney (home delivery only), Mahomet (home delivery only), and Homer.

Call 800-543-1770 for reservations. Reservations for Monday must be made by Friday noon.

NOTE: There will be no change to home deliveries, but meeting locations will allow you to have a take-away meal.

Monday: pork chop in sauce, mashed potatoes, broccoli, whole wheat bread, whole grain fruit bars.

Tuesday: Stuffed chicken breast, baked potatoes, spinach, whole wheat bread, pears.

Wednesday: ham and beans, pickled beets, corn bread, peaches.

Thursday: turkey tetrazzini, sweet cinnamon carrots, Italian green beans, whole wheat bread, pineapple slices.

Friday: focaccia chicken, twice-baked potato casserole, corn, Texas toast, fresh fruit.

Urbana Free Library: I’m looking for volunteers to do computer work for the Amazon store. Conveyed training.

Champaign Public Library: I’m looking for drivers with a valid license to deliver home books between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on the first and third Thursday of each month. This important service provides library materials to customers. Background check and interview with library staff required.

Gardening dig? The Urbana Free Library, Urbana Park District, and Champaign County Forest Preserve District are looking for volunteer gardeners! Call RSVP for more information.

READING project: I’m looking for tutors to help adults improve their skills in reading, math or English as a second language. Training starts this week via Zoom. Personal training at the Champaign Public Library begins May 21st. You can find more information at

Eating for Seniors: Join this lively group every second and fourth Tuesday of the month from 6:45 am to 9:00 am. Make friends as you dump groceries, unload trucks from the Eastern Illinois Foodbank, disassemble boxes, or deliver grocery bags to seniors (mileage refundable). Must be standing and able to lift up to 20 pounds. Contact Robbie Edwards at 217-359-6500.

VA Compassionate Contact Corps: I’m looking for good people to talk to to build relationships with vets through the new phone-friendly visitor program. Volunteer for one hour a week from home in this veteran service. Training and support from VA employees.

Senior transport: Licensed drivers are required for trips to grocery stores, pharmacies, doctor’s appointments, etc. Everyone wears a mask that will be provided if needed. Mileage refunded. Please call Terry Family Service at 217-352-0099 for more information.
